Sidney Prize is an annual award that honors the outstanding undergraduate work of a Dartmouth student. The prize was established by a group of friends in memory of the late Sidney Cox. Cox was a professor who influenced hundreds of students both in and out of his classes. He sought to raise the level of scholarship and integrity in writing by holding students to high standards.

The winner receives $5000 in prize money, and the runners-up each get $2500. The winning story is published in Overland’s autumn edition. The runner-up stories are published online. The judges are looking for a short story that is compelling and original, while addressing a current issue or event in Australia. The judges will also consider the way in which the story is written.

In 2023, Physicist and author Sidney Perkowitz was awarded the prize for his work connecting art, media, and literature to science. The prize is awarded by the American Institute of Physics. Perkowitz is an expert on quantum theory, but he is best known for his work connecting the humanities to physics. He has written dozens of books and articles, and has given countless lectures and presentations on topics ranging from astronomy to the history of science.

The Sidney Hillman Foundation is a left-of-center organization that annually awards monetary prizes for journalism and public service. The foundation was founded in 1946 in honor of Sidney Hillman, who worked to illuminate the great issues of the day including a search for a basis for lasting peace, the need for better housing, medical care and employment security, the promotion of civil liberties and democracy, and the battle against discrimination based on race, nationality or religion.

Unlike many of the other Mercer University Prizes, the Sidney Hillman Prize is open to undergraduate and graduate students in all fields. Applicants must submit an essay that reflects their research, is innovative and creative in its approach to the subject matter, and demonstrates an understanding of the significance of the topic. The finalists are selected by a panel of experts from all academic disciplines and the winner is announced at the end of April.

The Frank Stilwell Prize in Political Economy is awarded for a postgraduate research project, or an aspect thereof, that contributes significantly to the discipline of Political Economy at the University of Sydney. The prize is intended to promote the development of socially-engaged research addressing systemic processes of social exclusion and resistance. The prize is not open to students who currently hold a postgraduate research scholarship from the University of Sydney that provides them with a stipend allowance.
