What is Dominos?
The domino is a small, flat, rectangular block that is used as gaming object. Its ends are either blank or bearing from one to six pips (spots) and 28 such tiles form a complete set. It is also known as a bone, pieces, men, or cards. It is usually made of a rigid material, such as wood or ivory, although modern sets are often made of polymer plastic.
Dominoes can be played with any number of players. The object is to build chains of dominoes in such a way that the exposed ends are all identical, or that they total some specified sum. This can be accomplished by placing a domino so that its two matching ends touch, or by adding up all the pips on the exposed edges of a particular domino.
In some games, a player may choose to cover up a portion of the board, so that only the exposed pips can be scored. This is known as “domino hiding.” A player can also use the exposed pips to block another player from scoring, for example, by putting an “X” on an adjacent space or blocking a player’s play with an out-of-turn move. There are many other ways to score and play domino.
One of the most popular forms of domino is a race to score points. The player who first plays a domino in a row is said to “win” the game. The other players must then try to catch him or her by playing a domino with matching exposed ends or by forming a chain with one of their own dominoes. The winning player then earns the point for that domino and all the points in the chain are removed from the losing players’ hands.
